Our Correspondents, who visited the scene of the inferno in the early hours of Saturday March 2, report that the fire started at about 3pm Friday March 1 from neighboring zinc constructed shops and rapidly spread to other buildings and shops as a result of electrical connection linking the adjourning buildings.

Landlady of the 22 rooms’ block building , Mrs. Patricia Akwara who was still in apparent shock when newsmen visited the scene stated that she was at home cooking at about 3pm when she heard people shouting “ fire, fire”
According to her, it was in a bid to put off the fire with water in the neighboring zinc buildings that they surprisingly saw the inferno taking over their roof.

A young lady whose boutique was razed, Onos Vincent , explained that she fell on the ground on getting to the scene of the inferno after she  was alerted at the market that her shop was on fire.
