18 cultists, kidnappers apprehended as Police kill suspect in separate operations

18 suspected members of Aye Confraternity who purportedly harassed communities along the road in Ejeme Aniogor community under the Nsukwa Division of the Nigeria Police in Delta State have been arrested, while three suspected kidnappers: Saturday Oyouvwe (male) Samson Iroovowo (male) and Janet Onya Akpowene (female) were arrested by detectives around Okpara Inland.

A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP. Celestina Kalu revealed that the 18 suspected cultists were apprehended by a patrol team from Nsukwa, Ibusa and Ogwashikwu Divisions with the assistance of the community vigilante following a tip off.

The statement made available Tuesday August 2 disclosed that an unidentified robbery suspect was on Monday August 1 gunned down along the PTI/EKU Road by Anti Robbery Patrol Team from Warri Area Command Office, Warri.

The team was reportedly on duty at PTI/Eku Road when they intercepted a black coloured Volkswagen car with Reg. No. Delta AG 625 DSZ with four occupants.

According to the report, when the occupants of the car were flagged down to stop for a search, they immediately opened fire on the patrol team. In the ensuing gun-duel, one of the suspected armed robbers was gunned down, while the others disembarked from the vehicle and escaped with bullet wounds.
