Gbubemi’s Murder: Itsekiri takes case to DIG, Abuja
Late Toju Oritsegbubemi Udu

Unimpressed by a statement from Delta State Police Command that the force has begun investigations to unravel what led to the mysterious death of Toju Oritsegbubemi Udu, a female student of Delta State Polytechnic, DESPO, Otefe-Oghara, the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG led by Comrade Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema and National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS led by Comrade Oritseneye Fredrick have petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, Abuja in a bid to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to face the wrath of the law.

The petition which was written by Warri Based Legal Firm, Robinson Ariyo & Co on behalf of the Itsekiri graduates and students’ bodies, described the actions so far taken by the Nigeria Police within the territorial division in response to the gruesome murder of Toju Oritsegbubemi Udu, a student of the Department of Statistics , DESPO as “lackluster, creating very strong suspicion in the minds of our clients (NAIG and NAIS) that this heinous crime might eventually suffer the casualty of failed and inconclusive investigation”.

The petition which copied President Muhammadu Buhari, The Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Member Representing Warri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju as well as the three lawmakers of Itsekiri extraction in Delta State House of Assembly, urged the DIG and other stakeholders to use their good offices to wade into the “already volatile issue accordingly and prosecute the inherent crimes with a view to instilling order and discouraging acts unbecoming of a civilized society”.

It would be recalled that NAIG and NAIS in a Joint Press Statement made exclusively to Fresh Angle International on Friday July 8, expressed sadness that a week after “their sister and daughter”, Miss Oritsegbugbemi Udu was murdered and dumped in DESPO, Oghara Staff Quarters by “suspected ritualists”, neither the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Command of Nigerian Police nor the CSO of the School have made any official statement on the murder.
