Military hold “Show of Force” in Niger Delta

The soldierly spirit and gallantry of the Nigerian Military was on display when they held a “Show of Force” in Bomadi Headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area by officers and men of 222 Batallion Agbara, Ughelli in Delta State.

According to the Commanding Officer 222 Batallion, LT. Col. O. M. Oyekola the exercise which was termed a “Show of Force and Physical Fitness” was to create awareness and assure the people Niger Delta that the Military is on ground to ensure lives and property are safe.

 Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that the road show featured the display of fully kitted combat soldiers on foot, paraded through major streets of Bomadi at the early hours of the morning with morale boosting songs to the admiration of civilians who trooped out en-mass to catch a glimpse of the officers and men.

The exercise, which was led by the Commanding Officer of the 222 Batallion Agbara, Ughelli, LT. Col. Oyekola was accompanied by his host Officer Commanding A Coy Bomadi, Capt. E. Robert took off at about 6.00am from the Command Unit Bomadi Overside and tour to the GRA through Amatebe Quarters, as well as Ayama Quarters through Tuomo Roundabout, culminating at about 9.am at its Base.

Oyekola, while addressing the troops at the end of the exercise, expressed delight for a successful outing, assured officers and men under his command that their welfare was his priority and promised their welfare packages will soon be release to boost their morale even as he advised them to exhibit professionalism in carrying out their duties and conducts with the general public.

 Speaking to journalists, the commanding officer declared that the exercise which is a routine monthly security demonstration of “show of force and physical fitness” was also aimed at assuring the people of the military’s readiness to stamp out insecurity in Niger Delta, just as he warned that, hard times await those still involved in illegal bunkery activities. He therefore enjoined the people to go about their lawful businesses without fear or threat.

Residents could not hold back their excitement, as they cheered the troop in solidarity just as some Community Leaders, including Former Secretary to Bomadi Local Government Area, Abonima Obale and Secretary to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler, Chief Binaebi Ewurudje, applauded the Soldiers for the security demonstration.
