Renowned Niger Delta activist and Igba of Warri Kingdom, Chief Rita Lori Ogbebor has threatened to institute legal criminal action against Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa if the State Chief Executive do not reverse the amended DESOPADEC bill he signed Tuesday August 18 at Asaba on his return from a foreign trip.

The boisterous Itsekiri Chief who doubles as Patron/ Mother of Host Communities of Nigeria  Producing Oil and Gas handed down the threat Wednesday August 19 at the Rewane Villa in Warri during a media briefing organized by the Itsekiri Chapter of Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas.

She declared that the governor has no right to “take money from Local Government allocation or derivation money”, adding that the 1999 constitution supersedes any law passed by the Delta State House of Assembly.

According to Chief Ogbebor, the average amount that comes to Delta State monthly as derivation is N 5 billion and there is nothing to show for the living condition, rather people of the Host Communities are getting poorer by the day.

She gave governor Okowa seven days from Wednesday August 19 to reverse the new DESOPADEC bill or face criminal action in court.

Our Correspondent reports that Governor Okowa has come under intense criticism lately following the DESOPADEC amendment bill he sponsored and his introduction of school fees for primary school pupils as well as secondary school students from September 2015 session as well as the abolition of free maternal care by his administration.
