Breaking: Kerosene explosions send nine to Delta Hospital

No fewer than nine persons have been rushed to Central Hospital, Warri , Delta State in the last 48 hours as a result of kerosene explosion, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.

Investigations reveal that among the victims are a boy and girl, children of one Mr. Johnson A. Obethe of No. 4 Sanyo Street, Merogun, Warri.

According to Mr. Obethe, he was woken up yesterday night (Sunday August 16) at about 10pm that his two children of Basic Education School age suffered burns from kerosene explosion. He explained that one of the children was pouring suspected adulterated kerosene into their lantern when it exploded, burning their hands and legs.

Another parent told newsmen that her 9-year old child, Wegha Isaac suffered the same fate Saturday August 15 at Aladja in Udu Local Government Area, while 10-year old Elozino Akwirorogbe, also of Merogun, Warri who just rounded up her primary school education suffered worse burn in almost all parts of her body, including the face.

According to Elozino’s mother who spoke to newsmen at the female surgical ward of Central Hospital, Warri, Elozino’s elder brother was pouring kerosene into a lantern when the explosion occurred and burnt the two of them at about 8pm.

An elderly woman told Correspondents that she was pouring kerosene on firewood in Aladja area when the explosion shot directly on her grandchild of less than two years old.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema who led his Vice, Hon. Charlie Etsaghara, members of the Council’s legislative Arm to the Warri Central Hospital at about 1pm on Monday August 17 immediately he was alerted of the incident, advised parents and guardians to caution their wards against pouring kerosene on stove and lantern that are already lit.

The Warri South Council boss who gave between N 20,000.00 and N30, 000.00 to parents whose children were affected by the suspected adulterated kerosene explosion, promised to communicate the ugly development to the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

Hon. Edema called on the relevant government agencies to immediately enlighten members of the public of the possible sale of adulterated kerosene to avoid more casualties.
