BREAKING: Delta LG Workers proceed on indefinite strike

Barring any changes, Local Government Workers in the 25 local government areas of Delta State under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE will from Monday May 11, 2015 proceed on an indefinite strike, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.

The imminent strike is coming on the heels of unpaid salaries of over three months in majority of the local government councils having largeconcentration of primary school teachers.

Indications to the seriousness of the strike were dropped today by the Warri South Branch Chairman of NULGE, Comrade Godfrey Affor Maku during a congress held by the Union at the Conference Hall of Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri.

Comrade Maku who conveyed the message of the State NULGE President cum NLC factional Chairman, Comrade David Ofoeyeno, told staffers of Warri South Council that the strike will be total and councils whose staff are not being owed salary arrears will join in sympathy strike.

The precarious financial situation of urban councils in Delta State which is not helped by dwindling monthly federal allocations and huge deductions from source for payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, is further worsened by the internally generated revenue hijacked by PDP leaders, who make use of their loyalists in the collection of the revenue, with little or nothing paid to the local government coffers.
