Exclusive: Bomadi Legislative Leader, Deputy, Majority Leader impeached

Lawmakers of Bomadi Local Government Council Legislative Arm yesterday impeached the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Zidideke August, removed the Deputy Leader, Hon. Silva Mietoru and the Majority Leader, Hon. Akpodise Lawyer during a sitting at the Council Legislative Chamber in Bomadi, Our Bomadi Correspondent reports.

The removal was sequel to a motion moved by Hon. Bekes Peretonbofa and supported by 12 out of the 19 Councilors of the Local Government Area, thus securing the 2/3 majority of the House. The sitting was presided over by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Dandi Mulade, representing Ward 7. He was nominated as Pro-tem Leader.

Fresh Angle International gathered that the embattled Principal lawmakers also bagged 3 months suspension. The member representing Akugbene Ward 16, Hon. Innocent Akpoyibo was also suspended.

Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that the impeachment notice was signed by Hon. Bekes Peretonbofa, representing Ward 8 Ogriagbene, Hon. Boufede Manager, representing Ward 2 Bomadi, Hon. Seleoge Reuben Ward 9 Ogriagbene and Hon. Yeridideke Mulade, Ward 7 Esanma.

Others who signed the impeachment notice are: Hon. (Mrs.) Nurse-ere Edeimene, Ward 1 Bomadi, Hon. Amabiri Donald, Ward 17, Hon. Eddy Muturu, Ward 3 Bomadi, Hon. Amassuomor Sunny, Ward 12 Ogbenama, Hon. Ebiowei Anisah, Ward 6 Esanma, Hon. (Barr.) Susan Preyor, Ward 4, Hon. Clifford Labo, Ward 10 Kalafiogbene/Ekamta, Hon. (Mrs.) Mekeru Ebikemie-ere, Ward 11 Ogbenama and Hon. Raymond Bozimo, Ward 19 Ezebiri.

Some of the allegations leveled against the former Leader and his loyalists were “gross financial misappropriation, ineptitude in the discharge of official duties, high-handedness and misleading the House into acts of violence”.

The lawmakers stated that the move was to maintain the integrity of the House, enthrone transparency, discipline, financial prudence and to keep the House united.

Consequently, Hon. Clifford Labo, representing Ward 10 Kalafiogbene/Ekamta was nominated and elected as the new Leader of the Legislative Arm, while Hon. (Barr.) Susan Preyor, representing Ward 4 Kpakiama is now the Deputy Leader, even as Hon Dandy Mulade will now function in a dual capacity as Deputy Majority Leader and Acting Major Leader.

Speaking shortly after taking over leadership of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Labo promised to work in harmony with the entire members of the Council Executive and to justify the confidence reposed on him.

Labo said he would carry everyone along through consultation in the discharge of his constitutional duties, stressing that the House under his leadership will work harmoniously with the Executive Arm of Bomadi Local Government Council to enthrone the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

The lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence on Hon. Oluwole Karetimi based on what they described as his good leadership style in piloting the affairs of the council area, adding, “the reason for passing the confidence vote was to encourage him”.

Speaking during the presentation of the new Leadership of the House to him, the Council Chairman, Hon. Oluwole Karetimi promised to work with the new Leadership of the House, even as he advised them to remain united.
