OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

Mr. President

MARCH 28, APRIL 11 POLLS AND THE URGENT NEED TO ADDRESS THE IMPENDING DISENFRANCHISEMENT OF PDP FAITHFUL/SUPPORTERS IN UGBORODO, WARRI SOUTH-WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE

Your Excellency, we are constraint to write you this open letter out of frustration and to let you as well as the entire world know that despite your hugely commendable effort at flushing out the vicious Boko Haram insurgents from the North Eastern part of the country, so as to resettle Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in that region and ultimately pave the way for them to fully participate in the forth-coming March 28 and April 11polls, your laudable effort will not be complete if the Ugborodo situation is not immediately addressed.

FRUSTRATION OF THE PEACE/RESETTLEMENT PROJECT OF UGBORODO INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS, IDPs BY SUSPECTED APC MEMBERS PARADING AS PDP AND COMMUNITY LEADERS

Mr. President, you will recall that sometime last year, there was internal communal leadership crisis in Ugborodo, Warri South-West Local Government Area and indigenes of the community, most of whom are loyal and dedicated PDP members were displaced from their home-land, while a few others were killed or sustained varying degree of injuries.

In a bid to settle frayed nerves and find amicable solution to the unfortunate crisis, a High Powered Peace Committee midwife by the Chief of Naval Staff, comprising of the Army and Police High Commands, Stakeholders in Ugborodo as well as the Delta State Government was set up.

The Committee among other resolutions agreed that all Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Ugborodo be allowed to return to their homes in peace, a process that was meant to be facilitated by the Naval Command, particularly by the NNS Delta in Warri.

It may however interest Your Excellency and other Nigerians, especially the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC to know that in-spite of all the measures put in place by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Navy and Army to resettle Ugborodo sons and daughters in Ode-Ugborodo, Ijaghalla, Ogidigben, Ajudaibo and Madangho (Escravos) some members of the All Progressives Party, APC, parading themselves as community and PDP leaders have continued to frustrate all efforts of Ugborodo people, who are avid supporters of the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid to return home, settle down, collect their PVCs and possibly campaign for all PDP candidates at the Federal and State Levels.

OUR POSITION

We are by this medium appealing to Mr. President, all relevant security agencies, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC and the Delta State Government, to act fast and ensure that genuine Ugborodo indigenes return home immediately to prevent majority of them from being disenfranchised,  so as to enhance the PDP chances in the forth-coming polls.

Your Excellency, emotions are running fever high and if urgent steps are not taken to allow the exiled Ugborodo indigenes who are faithful and passionate members of the PDP return home to settle down, with a view to performing their civic constitutional voting right, there might be fresh fratricidal crisis in Ugborodo which may become an unnecessary distraction to your re-election bid.

Signed:

Amejuma Atete

For: Internally Displaced Ugborodo Indigenes
