A hybrid library equipped with 21 internet ready computers, a state-of- the art system sever, a data base of electronic library books stored locally on the server, backed up with a 20KVA standby diesel plant plus an inverter backup amongst other facilities have been built and handed over to St. Peter’s Grammar school, Agbenebode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State by Texaco Nigeria Outer Shelf, a Chevron owned company.

In an address shortly before commissioning the project on Friday January 23, the Director, Deep Water and PSCs, Mr. Jeffery Ewing explained that the company decided to construct the hybrid library because it “believes that education unlocks the potentials of the people and galvanizes them for progressive development”, adding that “educational development is one of the matic areas of the social investment programmes” of the company.

Mr. Jeffery Ewing who was represented by Mr. Tom Akagbosu stated that this is not the first time the Chevron company is partnering with the Edo State Government in its policy of adding value to people’s lives. He stressed that Chevron a few years ago through its Star Water Petroleum Limited with its Agbami partners provided an ultra modern chest clinic to the Auchi General Hospital as well as the implementation of a Roll Back Malaria Programme in Agenebode among other educational support programmes.

In an address, the Group General Manager, NAPIMS, NNPC, Engr. Jonathan Okehs noted that manpower development is a crucial aspect of the company’s investment, hence they are quite happy to partner with Texaco Nigeria Outer Shelf on the hybrid library project.

Engr. Okehs, whose address was read by Ahmed Abdulahi, opined that “one of the challenges facing the development of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and indeed globally is the dearth of skilled manpower”.

In a message, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole stated that St. Peter’s Grammar School, Agenebode is one of several Public Schools in the State his administration has renovated.

Comrade Oshiomhole who was represented by the Edo State Commissioner for Environment and Public Utilities, Prince Clem Agba, also averred that his administration started the red roof structure of public schools in the State “that were neglected for Over 30 years”.

While commending Chevron for partnering the State in educational development, the Edo State governor disclosed that 108 active gulley erosion sites are in Edo State, requiring trillions of naira to fix.

He admonished students of the school to make good use of the library facilities.

Principal of the school, Mr. Momodu Zekeri in a remark expressed gratitude to Chevron for the project and promised that the project will be adequately utilized.
