Delta Guber Ticket: Uduaghan, others congratulate Okowa

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has congratulated Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on his victory at the Monday, December, 8th 2014, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary, which held in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Dr. Uduaghan in a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sunny Ogefere, described the victory of Okowa who polled 406 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief David Edebvie who scored 299 votes, as well deserving.

Governor Uduaghan who is the leader of the PDP in the State, charged Okowa to demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship by quickly extending a hand of fellowship to other contestants.

He also called on the other aspirants to note that the exercise was a family contest where there was no loser, urging them to join hands with Okowa in positioning the party for victory at the general elections.

"I must at this juncture commend the peaceful disposition displayed by all aspirants before and during the primary. This is a testament to our peace and security agenda in the State, " He said.

In his congratulatory message, one of the governorship aspirants, Ambassador Gabriel Chukwuma Oyibode said, "Okowa's rigorous campaign activities, hard work and popularity within the party have been rewarded with landslide victory," adding that, "as a loyal party man, the victory of one of us, is victory for all. I shall continue to work for the interest of our great party."

Ambassador Oyibode commended all delegates, observers and all other participants in the primary for the painstaking exercise, saying that the peaceful conduct of the primary has further proved a point and showed to other political parties and the world that, "our party is democratic indeed and is a big united family. I therefore pledge to support Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in the interest and development of our great party and Delta State at large."

On his part, the immediate past Minister of Niger--Delta, Elder Godday Orubebe who also contested in the primary, while addressing his supporters at his campaign office in Asaba, described the victory of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as deserving, adding that, "we will work for the PDP and the success of our candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa."

Also, the immediate past Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei who garnered 185 votes to emerge third in the contest while congratulating Senator Okowa, described the exercise as free and fair

The former Speaker who personally visited Okowa a day after the exercise at his Asaba residence, described him as a grassroots politician who has consistently showed high leadership qualities, adding that the victory of Okowa was the victory of PDP and the entire Delta State.

On his part, another aspirant in the governorship primary, Chief Mike Uwaka, described the victory of Okowa as a reward for consistency and hard work, and called on all PDP members to rally round the Governorship Candidate .

In the same vein, Urhobo National Youth Movement, UNYM, has congratulated  Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on his victory at the just concluded Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary.

Speaking on behalf of the youth body, the President, Mr. Alex Idu said, "the fact is that Okowa is the best candidate and has remained steadfast and resolute in his bid to become the governor of Delta State. Okowa is the best qualified candidate, and is more equipped to take over from Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. "
