Exclusive: APC primaries aborted in Warri

There was pandemonium at Rewane Villa, Ogunu road close to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s private residence in Warri, Delta State in the early hours of today as armed mobile policemen used tear-gas canisters and gunshots to scare angry All Progressives Congress, APC members who felt shortchanged regarding money allegedly promised them before the primaries was billed to take place.

Our Correspondents report that the angry youths numbering about a hundred turned violent, attacked the policemen who came in two vans apparently to ensure a peaceful conduct of the primaries and the youths almost overpowered the policemen until soldiers within the premises came to the rescue of the policemen. The soldiers reportedly opened fire, shot into the air and released tear-gas canisters to dispel the youths.

As at the time of filing in this report, it was not certain if the primaries will still hold as only few APC members were seen at the venue of the aborted primaries, believed to have been planned to produce the party’s House of Assembly Candidate for Warri South Constituency 1.

The aborted APC primaries is coming on the heels of that of the PDP held in Warri weekend, which produced the immediate past Director of Protocol in Delta State Government House, Hon. Godwin Abigor as PDP candidate for Warri South Constituency 1 amid wagging tongues.

The All Progressives Congress in Delta State have been factionalized for some time now, with some members of the party accusing the PDP leadership in the state of infiltrating the party ranks and sponsoring some PDP members in the guise of APC membership with a view to weakening the party strength.
