Brazil, Spain, Belgium produce biggest flops at 2014 World Cup

Host Brazil, 2010 World Cup Champions, Spain and hitherto rated dark houses of 2014 World Cup, Belgium are among top countries that produced highly rated stars that performed far below expectations at the 2014 Mundial, Fresh Angle checks can reveal.

Though not rated as one of the most prolific strikers in world football today, but the mere fact that Fred wears the number 9 jersey of Brazil Senior National team, considering the array of talents Brazil has to offer makes him probably the most dismal performer at the 2014 World Cup.

Fred did not strike any reasonable threat to opposition goal tenders, let alone provide assists in the goals Brazil scored.

The fact that Brazilian fans singled him out for booing in the astonishing 7:1 drubbing by Germany in the semi final tells the whole story of a striker with blunt boot and lack of creativity on the field of play.

Chelsea bound Brazil born Spanish International, Diego Costa is arguably one of the most highly rated finishers in Europe, but his below average performance which left him being substituted in all the games he featured at the World Cup coupled with his team’s disappointing first round exit in Brazil shocked soccer fans across the globe.

The open hate showed by Brazilian fans toward Diego Costa for choosing to represent Spain instead of his country of birth, Brazil and the nagging injury that sidelined him for weeks toward the end of the 2013/2014 football season in Europe may have accounted for Costa’s poor showing at Brazil 2014, even though he showed flashes of his brilliance.

Belgium attacking midfielder and Chelsea playmaker, Eden Hazard is arguably one of the best young football talents presently in world football, but certainly one player that disappointed soccer fans across the world in Brazil 2014.

Just like his country disappointed fans’ expectation at the world cup, particularly the tepid quarter final display against Argentina, Eden Hazard was a shadow of himself in Brazil.

The touch of brilliance, creativity and amazing skill that Hazard is known for were totally absent at the Mundial. Hazard failed to dazzle, looked uninspired and probably fagged out, no thanks to a long season with Chelsea.
