The Police from ‘B’ Division in Warri, Delta State have gun down a robbery suspect, Akporobo Oyibode .M. after he attempted to escape while leading the police team to their hideout.
A statement by the State Police Command said the suspect died at the Central Hospital Warri where he was rushed to for treatment after suffering gunshot wounds in his failed escape bid.
Trouble started when the police team from ‘B’ Division Warri who were on routine township patrol along Okere-Ugborikoko road in Warri ran into four armed men robbing a business centre belonging to one Ejiro Eyafiam .M.
The team successfully arrested the robbery suspect, Akporobo Oyibode who was later shot, while other members’ of his gang escaped.
Items recovered from the gang according to the police statement include: One brown Passat Wagon with Registration number: (Delta) AJ 840 OSZ, two cut-to-size locally made double barrel guns, one locally made pistol, one locally made single barrel gun as well as one live and expended cartridges.
Meanwhile, herdsmen on Wednesday March 26 at about 9:00am allegedly opened fire on police patrol team from Isiokolo Division in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Report says the incident which occurred at Okpara bush in the area happened after the herdsmen failed in their bid to frighten the policemen with cows.
A police statement disclosed that when the bush was combed after the herdsmen escaped, one AK 50 military rifle with S/NO. BW2748 and one hundred and fifty-two (152) rounds of live ammunition believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing herdsmen were found.
